Scouting NY

via Scouting NY

While I was looking for something, I came across this website. Scouting NY is Nick Carr's website where he shows potential filming locations in NYC. I find the idea of discovering these gems right within Manhattan fascinating and even more so because they could end up being amazing film locations.

Essay time.

from x
And again it is time for this one big essay we have to write for our film module.
I love the freedom they give us and that there is always this one topic that I love to write about.
This time it is film adaptations.

And even though I thought about (duuh) Harry Potter again, I kind of realised I have to move on a bit (haha). But probably more so because my lecturer did not even read the books (I almost died when he said that).
So Hunger Games it is!

For the first time, I liked the film better than the book. But now I have so much to say and don't know where to start.

Especially because there is not that much that has been written about this topic I am quite ambitious and reaaaally want to write something amazing.

I have to finish it before I fly home and I am kind of shitting my pants because of that.
17 days to go.
oh oh

the blue party.

This is a film about my friends flatwarming party. I love the video so much and I am looking forward to another party like that on Saturday!!!

thanksgiving. or turturkeykey

And again, another day went gone. I must say, except for the icing everything went so smooth! It was so good, over far too fast and way too yummy. So I am sitting here with a tummy ache and so so tired. Watching the Thanksgiving Parade in NYC today made me a bit sad and just reminded me how much fun I had in America and how much I loved being there.

So tomorrow is my last media seminar and in a bit the whole semester is over. Insane to think about.

thanksgiving/ fatsgiving/ slapsgiving

via weheartit
Now. Thursday is Thanksgiving.
I know I am not really American enough to celebrate it but anyyywaaay- we are in love with food (and bacon) so we are just gonna make a feast anyway. Turkey, cranberry sauce, carrot cake cupcakes, several potatoes, rolls, soup, pie, whip cream, strawberries, creamed spinach, bean casserole, cheese, chocolate mousse... if you think it stops there you are wrong- hahah

Now we all might end up with diabetes or a really high cholesteral level but I think it is gonna be worth it.

SO EXCITED!!!

coming soon...

Sometimes I find it more exciting to just watch trailers for hours...instead of working on the endless list of films I actually should watch. For some reason I just really like Paul Rudd.

working girl

via Sunny Gu
I think I never really mentioned that I got a job. SO yaay, I am finally earning money which feels better than ever. Julia worked there last year and because they were really desperate for people and I could not find anything else I started there as well.
So I work for Ipsos MORI, which is a market research company, as a telephone interviewer. Yes, I am one of the most hated people in the universe. We do surveys and nothing else but people yell at you and hang up on you. But then there are really nice people.
And when you are lucky enough to sit next to nice people in the call centre you can share your embarrassing or funny stories and the shift just flies by. Or not.

I am just really happy that I can go out again and don't have to watch every penny.

semester abroad

Make yours @ BigHugeLabs.com

I got itchy feet again and the fact that I could abroad² is veeeery convenient.
We have several partner universities in Australia, Sweden, USA and Canada. My dream would have been to go to Australia but I kinda had to realize that it is impossible to afford that.
So I figured Sweden would be fun and I was happy with my decision (it is too early to apply anyway).
untiiil I talked to this girl at work that goes to my uni and she went to the American partner uni in Pennsylvania and told me how amazing it was and that the ACCOMMODATION WAS FREE.
I don't have to pay tutition fees anyway, so free accommodation would be like a big big big way to safe money. and for free, omg ?!?
So that was like a couple days ago and ever since I am totally obsessed with that idea.

BUT I DON'T KNOW
something is holding me back and I am not sure what it is.

Saturday 10 November 2012

piercings kinda freak me out. yeah me too

new piercing
I love Saturdays. I try to make them my special "day off", no uni work or workwork.
SO today Mona and I were seriously productive: making an appointment for Mona so she can get a haircut, then go to the piercing&tattoo studio to get pierced (haha) , go back to hairdressers, playtime on Mona's Iphone for me and then go to Asti to have an amazing Italian lunch.
And did I mention that we didn't even have to leave our street for this?

By the way, I take back what I said about the SmokeStack- the owner is a douchebag (I hope he reads this!) and this is reason enough not to go there.

SUMMER. 2013

via tumblr
2013, how weird that sounds.
2012 always reminded me of the film 2012, which I guess is not the most positive association. But 2013 sounds so futuristic. new. far away.
SO what to do?
Returning to camp is still on my mind, but to be honest, I have no freaking clue what I am supposed to do.

I could do so many things that summer: Go to Turkey with Mona and stay at her summer house, visit Margaux and her amazing pool in southern France, go to Vegas (just because) and finally do all the things I couldn't do last time, visit my camp people without going to camp, tour europe, visit Sina in South America, work at the Fringe, stay in Edinburgh...

?!?!?!?
Too many cool ideas and every day there is another one popping in to my head.

On the other hand, I should really do something related to my degree. Something, anything...
In one of our modules we have graduates from QMU coming in to our lectures and telling us about the amazing things they have done since leaving Uni.. a tiny bit inspiring- but mostly depressing.

hooray!

And I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago. Let me say this publicly.

Michelle, I have never loved you more. I have never been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you too as our nation’s first lady.

Makes my heart melt.

Broughton Street

@Smoke Stack
I love my street. It is one of those that has the right mix of bars, shops and other stuff. Very busy on the weekends when everyone is out brunching, shopping or smoking outside a bar.

On Saturday we went to have breakfast at the Smoke Stack, which I can only recommend. Really fair prices and good breakfast. Nothing beats bacon and maple syrup.

Tea at the Old Bakehouse, Broughton Street

And because we couldn't resist we stopped by the chocolate store on the way back. Coco Chocolate is the cutest little cafe with so much chocolate (they even have a chocolate school!) The brownies are too good and we kinda went to heaven.

Another super good cafe is the Bakehouse- they make amazing Carrot Cake (not too dry, just perfect!) and the piece is big enough to share. It is super comfy inside and they have this cosy corner with all the pillows. Everytime I walk by I just stare inside (my favorite thing is their cake display with the fairy lights).

@Treacle via tripadvisor
Oh and I almost forget Treacle. Super stylish bar with amazing breakfasts. Very hip people meet for cocktails on a Saturday afternoon while some (as in us) are having a hangover breakfast (until 5pm, genius!). Always crowded on weekend nights and basically never empty, which is insane. The cocktails are really good and they have very nice cosy leather couches, cool music. Love it!

There are so many more delis, restaurants and bars we have to try out but we are getting there... probably when we are done with Uni. Anyway, Broughton Street should not be missed!!!

the usual unhappiness

These days I miss America more than ever. Breakfast at IHOP, my mall, scrapbook shopping at Michael's, the beautiful parks, drinks with my hostmom, my favorite restaurant. I dont't know what it is but I just loved the fall in New York. So pretty, so fun, perfect fall.

and to make it even worse, some pictures.

main street of Beacon, NY.

Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

via

Bellatrix & Katniss

Halloween 1.0// witch and ... gretel?
I wish Halloween was at least 3x a year. I know there is Carnival for us in Germany and obviously everyone can throw a theme party and dress up for that. But there is nothing that comparable with Halloween, when the whole city is wearing the funniest and smartest costumes and is drowning in fake blood.
Even though I dressed up twice this year (I just had to wear my blue wig at least once!), it does not feel enough. So I had a little giggle when I saw the Edward-doppelganger at Uni today- the hair, the facial expression, the clothes, the smile. SO WEIRD! A little bit of Halloween for every day.
